Area FCS roundup: Santiago powers North Dakota to eighth win in a row

John Santiago, a sophomore from St. Francis, rushed for 204 yards while North Dakota limited Northern Colorado to only 6 yards on the ground en route to a 23-13 victory Saturday in Greeley, Colo., the eighth consecutive win for the Fighting Hawks.

Starting in place of the injured Keaton Studsrud, Ryan Bartels threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Luke Mathewson midway through the third quarter to put North Dakota (8-2, 7-0 Big Sky) ahead 20-7.

North Dakota held the Bears (5-4, 3-3) to 275 yards.

North Dakota State 24, Youngstown State 3: Chase Morlock ran for 101 yards and a touchdown to help the Bison (8-1, 5-1 Missouri Valley) beat the Penguins (6-3, 4-2) in Fargo.

South Dakota State 49, Missouri State 24: Taryn Christion passed for 347 yards as the Jackrabbits (6-3, 5-1 Missouri Valley) beat the Bears (4-5, 2-4) in Brookings, S.D.

Southern Illinois 35, South Dakota 28: Sam Straub passed for 339 yards and two TDs as the Salukis (3-6. 1-5 Missouri Valley) beat the visiting Coyotes (4-5, 3-3).
