Tre Dempsey intercepted Eastern Washington quarterback Gage Gubrud on the first possession of overtime and Lance Dunn ran 25 yards on North Dakota State's first offensive play as the Bison defeated the Eagles 50-44 on Saturday in Fargo, N.D.
North Dakota State forced overtime by going 71 yards in 14 plays, tying the score at 44 on Cam Pedersen's 28-yard field goal. Eastern's Jordan Dascalo's 49-yard attempt with six seconds left was wide left.
Tamarick Pierce's 1-yard scoring run with 4:32 to play gave Eastern its only lead, 44-41.
Dunn rushed for 128 yards and two TDs as the five-time defending FCS champion Bison (2-0) piled up 537 yards, 280 on the ground.
South Dakota 52, Weber State 49 (2OT): Former Gophers quarterback Chris Streveler passed for four TDs and rushed for two, leading the Coyotes back from a 21-point fourth-quarter deficit in a double-overtime victory over Weber State in Vermillion, S.D.
The Coyotes (1-1) won on Miles Bergner's 34-yard field goal in the second overtime after Weber State's Taylor Hintze missed from 36 yards.
With South Dakota trailing 41-21 entering the fourth quarter, Streveler threw three TD passes in the final 15 minutes, including a 26-yarder to Shamar Jackson that tied the score 42-42 with 27 seconds left. In the first overtime, Streveler connected with Jackson for a 10-yard scoring strike.
Streveler finished 22-for-38 for 173 yards with an interception. He also rushed 23 times for 125 yards.
