It comes without the fanfare of the more popular opener this weekend, but that doesn't diminish it. For those not traveling to the northwoods in search of Ol' Ruff, and unwilling to wait until October to chase Tailfeathers, there are the Huns.
Hunters willing to break in the boots and looking to get some dog work in Minnesota's ag regions can hit the field Saturday with the opener of Minnesota's Hungarian Partridge season.
Notice I did not say "Gray" Partridge. What an unfitting adjective for such a regal game bird - it's insulting. Gray is for rainy days and wizard beards. "Great" Partridge is more like it.
Chasing Huns before the pheasant opener also proves that you consider them more than just a "bonus bird" to your bag. Was meeting the love of your life "just another date?" Trust me, there is nothing inconsequential about the Huns.
So, will you be HUNting this weekend?

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
