November 13, 2009 at 1:25PM

An early-season arctic air mass is spreading across eastern Asia. Hightemperatures throughout Siberia in eastern Russia have averaged 10 to 15degrees below normal for the month of November so far. One location,Verkhoyansk, has had high temperatures each of the past three days reach the-30s, a good 10 degrees colder than normal. This arctic air has started to ooze southward over the past few days and hasreached parts of northeastern China.

At China's capital city of Beijing, snow has fallen three times this week, themost recent of which caused numerous travel delays and cancellations in andaround the city. High temperatures in Beijing have failed to climb out of the30s Tuesday and Wednesday; the normal high for the middle of November is near50.

The arctic air will remain in place through the weekend and likely into earlynext week as the dome of high pressure continues to funnel the arctic airsouthward.
