Arctic Air Blasts the East, Midwest

Bitterly cold air has invaded the Midwest and Northeast. Temperatures plummetedbelow 20 degrees as far south as North Carolina and Tennessee on Saturdaynight.Today's highs will fail to warm above freezing in parts of North Carolina andTennessee as well. Farther north, temperatures will hover in the teens innorthern New England. However, the core of the cold will sit over North Dakotaand Minnesota, where thermometers will read only in the single digits today.

Stiff breezes will make AccuWeather.com RealFeel temperatures even lower.

Temperatures will rebound a bit on the northern Plains on Monday, but theinterior Northeast will remain unusually cold.
