Archbishop Nienstedt condemns gay marriage in speech

September 16, 2013 at 8:48PM

Archbishop John Nienstedt harshly condemned gay marriage, abortion and contraception, describing them as works of the devil in a recent speech to a conservative group in California.

The Twin Cities archbishop made the remarks at a meeting last month at the Napa Institute Conference, highlighted in a report by The Huffington Post:

Nienstedt was a key leader in the Catholic Church's campaign to ban gay marriage in Minnesota. Church leaders contributed nearly $650,000 to the campaign for a state constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, which failed Nov. 6. Legislators went on to legalize same-sex marriage.
