A 22-year-old Apple Valley man was charged Wednesday with attempted second-degree murder and two counts of felony assault after allegedly stabbing his mother.

According to charges, Tyler Christensen called police late Monday and said he had just killed his mother. When officers arrived at the Apple Valley home, Christensen was kneeling in the front yard with blood on his clothing, arms and hands. Police found Kari Christensen, 50, unresponsive and covered in blood in the kitchen. She suffered multiple stab wounds to her neck and lacerations to her head.

At the hospital, she told police that an argument with her son had turned violent and that the last thing she remembered was one of them grabbing a frying pan, according to the charges.

Kari Christensen is expected to recover, according to Apple Valley police.

Tyler Christensen is in custody in the Dakota County jail. His bail is set at on $300,000, with conditions. His next court appearance is Aug. 3.
