A St. Louis Park man died in a crash in Idaho when his motorcycle hit an antelope that ran onto the highway.

Lawrence Steffens, 53, died at the scene of the crash, which occurred Friday afternoon.

According to the Idaho State Police, Steffens was rounding a corner in a remote area on U.S. Hwy. 93 when the antelope dashed out into the traffic lane. Steffens sideswiped the animal and lost control of his motorcycle, which then tipped onto its side, throwing him.

He was wearing a helmet, police said.

According to his Facebook page, he graduated from Totino-Grace High School and studied architectural technology at Minneapolis Community and Technical College. He described himself as the owner of Steffens Home Improvements.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
