Light overnight snow and bitter cold could mean a long, slow drive to work on Wednesday for many Twin Cities commuters. Slick and icy conditions, as well as snow flurries, may continue for the next few hours.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation reported numerous accidents and spinouts across the area since midnight. A semitrailer jackknifed on southbound I-35 shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday south of Lakeville.
A surge in windy conditions could make blowing snow and road visibility a problem for Twin Cities' drivers later today.
Blizzard warnings are in effect in northwestern and west central Minnesota, with a winter weather advisory in place for the rest of western Minnesota. Winds may increase to 20 to 30 mph with gusts of up to 40 mph.
Minneapolis can only expect a high of around 3 degrees today before the temperature drops to around 13 below zero tonight.
