Another Northeast Snowstorm Threat

February 18, 2010 at 1:25PM

This week started with a snowstorm pressing into the Northeast, and that maytake place again next week. Travel and daily routines could once again becomedisrupted. The exact track of the storm early next week is not set in stone. The graphicabove is just one solution. The storm may track farther to the south, furtherstraining snow-removal budgets in the mid-Atlantic.

It is also not out of the question that the storm tracks to the eastern GreatLakes before strengthening over New England. While this would keep the heaviestsnow out of Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, it could bring rain to thesecities.

Rain is not the best solution for the snow-weary mid-Atlantic. As the rainpours down, it will become absorbed by any snow still covering roofs. Theweight of the snow and rain could cause these roofs to collapse. In addition, the combination of rain and melting snow could trigger flash flooding.

Be sure to keep checking back with AccuWeather.com as more details of the stormbecome clearer.
