Authorities released the identity of a teenage pedestrian who was killed in eastern South Dakota. An Anoka motorist is jailed and was charged Monday with criminal vehicular homicide.

Killed in the crash Friday night in his hometown of De Smet was Zachary Eichstadt, 16, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol. Another pedestrian, also a juvenile, was hit by the pickup truck and suffered minor injuries, the patrol added.

The driver, James R. Harris, 28, was charged Monday with drunken driving, hit-and-run and criminal vehicular homicide. Bond was set Monday for Harris at $250,000.

The patrol says that Harris failed to obey a stop sign before hitting the two young people.

According to a preliminary breath test, the driver had a blood alcohol reading of 0.17.

Harris' driving history in Minnesota includes tickets for careless driving in 2006 and failure to obey a sign in 2005.
