For the second consecutive year, the Anoka County Board has voted to reduce the property tax levy.
The 2013 budget will decrease the property tax levy by more than $1 million.
"We're just beginning to emerge from one of the most devastating economic periods in our country's history," said Rhonda Sivarajah, county board chairwoman. "It's our responsibility as leaders to not overburden our citizens just as they're starting to get back on their feet."
"We will move forward with the excellent and diverse array of service as we always have," Sivarajah continued, "while staying focused on our priorities of sound management, a diverse tax base, low debt burden and healthy reserves."
The 2013 budget's cost-saving measures total $1,013,299, enabling a net tax levy of $97,517,399.
The amount represents a 1.03 percent decrease from 2012. The county continues to emphasize paying down debt.
