Anchorman 2 cancelled. according to one of the creator's Twitter feed. Hmm. . It would have made money; it has a built-in crowd that's not Iron-Man huge, but big enough to earn back its costs. These fans love to quote the movie, and wear t-shirts whose references to the film confuse the unfamiliar. You heart lamps? Really? Why is that funny? Plus, it allows people to be simultaneously deride and enjoy the 70s. So why no sequel?
You can imagine an exec saying the original was unique, and it would be hard to get that zing back. A lesser sequel might make money, but it would besmirch the reputation of the original.
Then everyone has a good laugh, wipes the tears from their eyes, catches their breath, and goes on to the next item. Besmirching the reputation of the original! That guy says the funniest things.
