Flamenco veteran goes solo
Sachiko “La Chayí” Nishiuchi will perform an evening of solo flamenco dance with live accompaniment by José Cortés Fernández and guitarist Andrés Vadin. A native of Osaka, Japan, Nishiuchi is a former resident artist at Minneapolis-based Zorongo Flamenco. She moved to Spain in 2010 to study for five years, where a beloved teacher gave her the nickname “La Chayí.” (The teacher struggled to pronounce “Sachiko.”) Presented as a traditional “tablao” performance, Nishiuchi’s “Alma Flamenca” show includes improvisation in parts and theatrical effects in others. (6 p.m. Sun., Icehouse, 2528 Nicollet Av. S., Mpls., $16-$20; 612-276-6523, icehousempls.com.)
