Vikings Pro Bowl defensive end hosts first golf event for his new foundation

Vikings All-Pro defensive end Jared Allen comes from a military family and often talks about his great appreciation for those who serve our country.

That's why Allen wanted to do something to recognize and support military veterans. Allen has created a foundation called Jared Allen's Homes for Wounded Warriors. The charity's goal is to build or modify homes for injured soldiers who are returning home from war.

Allen hosted a unique charity golf event in Arizona this weekend to raise money for his cause. Here is column on the event from the Arizona Republic.

In typical Allen style, this wasn't an ordinary golf event. Marines were located at every hole and would scream at players during their swings. One player had to do pushups before hitting his tee shot. And the final nine holes were played at night.
