All-Out Nor'easter... Not This Time

January 29, 2010 at 1:25PM

Many a great winter storm has turned straight up the East Coast after reachingthe Carolinas. Those are the classic nor'easters that stories are often toldabout. You know, the ones that dump 1 to 2 feet of snow from Virginia toMaine.Actually, it is somewhat unusual for a major snowstorm to move from Missouri toVirginia without having some impact farther up the East Coast. However, that'swhat we believe is going to happen. Tonight and Saturday, accumulating snowcould make it as far north as the Maryland and Delaware. What's more, theheaviest snow will fall across Virginia. Northern North Carolina can alsoexpect 6 inches or more from the storm.

The reason the storm will not turn up the coast is a massive dome of highpressure to the north. The high will not give ground, which will keep the stormmoving more toward the east than the north.
