Boys' Team of the Year

St. Michael-Albertville

Wrestling

Why the team won: Since moving up to Class 3A in 2010, the Knights had been oh-so-close. They finished as runners-up in 2010, '11, '12, '15 and '16, and placed third in 2014 and '17. In 2013, they were co-champions with Apple Valley. After knocking on the door so often, they finally broke it down this season, defeating Shakopee 30-25 to become the first team other than the Eagles to win the Class 3A team title since 2005.

What was said: "Each year we have a saying, 'Trust the process of getting better.' So we have a process expectation that it's just trying to max out your process and ability every time you step out on the mat for practice or competition … At the beginning of the year, even my wife said: 'Gosh, I don't think you guys are very good this year.' I said, 'You just wait.' " — coach Dan Lefebvre
