Tickets will go on sale at noon Friday to hear Alexander McCall Smith, the kilt-wearing, literate and humorous author of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series of mysteries. He'll be in town Monday, April 26, at the State Theater as part of the Hennepin Theater Trust's "Living Legends" series.

Smith is the author of more than 60 books, and was named the UK's author of the year in 2004. His Minneapolis talk--titled "The Very Small Things in Life"--will be followed by a question and answer period and a book signing.

Ticket prices range from $23 to $33, with a limited number of $53.50 tickets, which include a reception with the author.
