Alcohol suspected in fatal Orono crash

Alcohol may have been a factor in a crash that killed one driver in western Hennepin County early Saturday, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Around 2:15 a.m., a car traveling east on Hwy. 12 near Old Crystal Bay Road in Orono rear-ended a car driven by Melissa Waters, 25, of North St. Paul.

After hitting Waters' car, the first car spun around and came to rest in the westbound lane, where it was struck by a third car driven by Raymond Casey, 52, of Annandale.

The driver of the first car, Alexander H. Grenell, 26, of Maple Grove, was fatally injured, and died after being taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. The patrol said it suspects he had been drinking.

The other two motorists were not hurt. They were wearing seat belts and alcohol was not detected in either of them, the patrol said.
