A 50-year-old woman from Aitkin, Minn., died in an officer-involved shooting Tuesday evening after a standoff with authorities that lasted more than an hour and a half, according to the Aitkin County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities were called to check on the woman around 4:25 p.m. Deputies found her vehicle about an hour later in Fleming Township, northeast of Aitkin. A DNR conservation officer also responded. The Sheriff's Office said officers tried to persuade the woman, who was armed, to discard her weapons, and at one point she got out of the vehicle. Officers spoke with her and "on at least two occasions during the exchange, she fired shots toward the officers," the Sheriff's Office said.

The woman was shot around 7:10 p.m. She died around 10 p.m. at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. An autopsy and formal identification are pending.

The shooting is under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
