A St. Croix River city known for its quaint village center will host a three-day holiday tradition event starting Friday.

The annual "Village Holiday" in Afton features complimentary horse and wagon rides, strolling carolers, Victorian tree decorating, story time and free events for children, among other activities.

"Afton is the perfect setting for an old-fashioned holiday celebration," said Kathy Jarvis, owner of the Historic Afton House Inn. "We invite everyone to Afton to create new memories, share past reminiscences and join the festive fun."

Friday's events run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Saturday and Sunday events begin at 9 a.m.

Afton, in Washington County, is about 20 minutes east of downtown St. Paul. Take I-94 east to the St. Croix Trail exit, then travel south 4.5 miles to Afton.
