Value means different things to different homeowners. Maybe you want a home engineered to make the most of precious resources, from energy efficiency to maximizing your own use of time. Maybe you seek a home that expresses your personal aesthetic and enhances your quality of life. Or maybe you're aiming for a home that will deliver the highest return on investment at resale.

However you define "value," you'll learn tips and strategies at "The Value of Good Design," an evening of architecture and design presented by AIA Minnesota and Star Tribune on April 19.

A panel of architects will share their best remodeling and home design strategies for creating a value-added home. You'll see new homes and home makeovers of every size and scope. And you'll have the opportunity to chat with architects and ask them questions about your personal project.

New to this year's event: an opportunity to sign up for a 20-minute one-on-one consultation with an AIA Minnesota residential design professional to talk at greater length about what you value in a home and how best to accomplish your goals.

You'll also have a seat — and first peek — at the Annual Home of the Month awards program, where this year's winning residential projects will be revealed.

Admission includes a bountiful buffet of hot and cold hors d'oeuvres catered by D'Amico, plus a cash bar, so bring a friend and make an evening of it. Due to the growing popularity of this event, the program has been moved to a larger venue, the atrium of International Market Square, to better serve all who wish to attend.

This is a prime opportunity to see some of the Twin Cities' best recent residential projects and to ask leading local architects about your home. □

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
