The May 4 death of Adam Yauch, aka MCA of the Beastie Boys, resulted in many heartfelt tributes worldwide. Here's one from his Minnesota beer fans (remember, the Beasties used to be big beer drinkers back in their day). Joe Falkowski, resident beerman about town (and J.J. Taylor salesman), has masterminded a party/benefit for Saturday night at Liquor Lyle's called "Fight For Your Right To Beat Cancer: Tribute to MCA of the Beastie Boys." Proceeds from the cover charge, silent auction and donation bucket will go to the American Cancer Society. Here's the scoop:
- Beastie Boys karaoke (with door prizes every half hour)
- 69-cent Brooklyn Brewery beers from 11 p.m.-midnight (Brooklyn being MCA's hometown)
- Brass Monkey specials all night, plus two-for-ones 8 p.m.-close
- Silent auction
Details: 8 p.m. Saturday. $5 cover. 2021 Hennepin Av., Mpls. 612-870-8183. More info here.
