Access Vikings morning walkthrough: Vikings' unorthodox training methods, a what-if with Wilson and more

Let's ponder the question: What if the Vikings had drafted Russell Wilson in the third round of the 2012 draft instead of Josh Robinson?

Every weekday, we walk you through what's going on with the Vikings.

WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED

— Unorthodox training methods, everything from ballet to wrangling pigs, have helped Vikings players sharpen their skills over the years.

— The Vikings added safety John Lowdermilk, whose father played for the organization three decades ago, to their practice squad on Tuesday.

— Mark Craig took an early look at the Seahawks, who have blown a bunch of leads this season as their defense has not been as dominant.

— In this week's Access Vikings podcast, Patrick Reusse stopped by to talk about quarterback Teddy Bridgewater's ceiling and whether the Vikings are legit contenders. He also scoffed at Michael Rand's latest hot take.

BEHIND ENEMY LINES

— The secret to Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin's most productive season in the league? The five-year veteran says it is caring less.

— Seahawks corner Richard Sherman had some words for the "idiots" who said he couldn't cover smaller guys like Antonio Brown of the Steelers.

— Seattle signed tight end Chase Coffman after losing Jimmy Graham.

TODAY'S VIKINGS SCHEDULE

Coach Mike Zimmer and Bridgewater will be on the podium at 11 a.m. after the morning walkthrough wraps up. The Vikings practice at 1 p.m.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

Here's a what-if moment to start your morning off (on the wrong foot maybe). Entering the 2012 draft, the Vikings already had a quarterback they hoped was the correct answer in Christian Ponder, but some in the organization were fond of Wisconsin's Russell Wilson. The Vikings also had a glaring need at cornerback, so with the third pick in the third round, they drafted speedy cover man Josh Robinson out of Central Florida. Nine picks later, the Seahawks snagged Wilson and the rest is history. Hindsight is 20/20, of course, but it did make sense at the time to pass on Wilson.
