The Twin Cities' favorite one-man-band, Martin Dosh, has been out most of the year playing drums (and keyboards and loop machines) behind indie mega-star Andrew Bird. He finally returns to the stage as a solo act in grand fashion today at the Lake Harriet Bandshell as part of the free Vita.mn Autumn Music & Movies series. As I wrote in my post about this event's kickoff night with Low, that bandshell is a magical venue, and the weather today is shaping up to be picture-perfect.

Dosh showed great taste with his movie selection, too: He'll be playing before the Terry Gilliam classic "Time Bandits," which blew me away as a kid and then sort of freaked me out when I saw it again as an adult (you don't realize how bizarre Gilliam's stuff is when you're 8). Dosh has been working up new material and plans to record over the fall for another album to be released in the spring. If you've never seen him perform before, he's a master of tape-looping/sequencing, as he arranges his drums and keyboards to create music that's futuristic and classical at the same time but also often quite pretty and/or catchy. Highly recommended all-around. Showtime is about 5:30.
