About the ivory gull

What: A hardy, pigeon-sized bird found near snow and ice.

ID: Adults are pure white with black legs. Juveniles have dark face smudges and speckles on the wings and back.

Range: They typically spend winter on the packed ice of the Arctic Ocean and rarely dip down to the Great Lakes.
