About the Hmong in the United States

Population: • 250,000 Hmong live in the United States.• 50,000 Hmong live in Minnesota -- the second-largest community behind California.

Education: • 39.2 percent of Hmong adults in the U.S. have less than a high school diploma, and 60.8 percent have earned a high school diploma or higher.

• An estimated 12.7 percent of Hmong adults hold a bachelor's degree or higher.

• The percentage of Hmong with a high school diploma and a college degree has more than doubled since 1990.

Income: Median family income in 2008 was $45.767.

Home ownership: U.S. Hmong home ownership rate in 2008 was 48.6 percent.
