News that a top Republican in Congress attended a meeting of white supremacists in 2002 could hinder efforts by the GOP to build a more diverse political party.

Efforts by Republicans nationally to build a more diverse political party which could appeal to a broad coalition of Americas suffered a set-back as news broke today that a top Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives addressed a gathering of white supremacists in 2002.

The response by Republicans in Congress to news that a member of GOP leadership attended a meeting of white supremacists in 2002 could have a huge impact the party's ability to prepare for the 2016 elections. A strong and speedy resolution to this issue is needed for Republicans to have any credibility in leading.
