Abnormal Warmth in North China

Unusual warmth more befitting late May than early April has swept intonorthern and northeastern China as of Tuesday and Wednesday. It will be evenwarmer on Thursday over a wide area due to warm air sweeping in from the southand west.At Beijing, the temperature topped 80 degrees on Wednesday, a normal high of65 notwithstanding. On Thursday, the temperature will soar as high as 85degrees.

Likewise, in Harbin, a city renowned for its bitter winter cold, the highwas in the low 70s on Wednesday. Warming further, the city will breach the80-degree mark Thursday even though the normal high would be near 50 degrees.

Cooling will reach the northeast on Friday, yet the heart of northern Chinawill have unusual warmth right into next week.
