A student-ticket reminder

Have your ID ready

October 1, 2009 at 8:56PM

Greetings.

The U issued a reminder Thursday that all Gophers student tickets must be accompanied by a valid U of M ID card to gain admission to games at TCF Bank Stadium.

The announcement was made due to concerns that non-students had been buying tickets to the Gophers-Wisconsin game from U of M students.

"We have heard reports that students are selling their tickets on the Internet and that it is causing some concerns ahead of Saturday's game vs. Wisconsin," assistant athletics director for marketing and ticketing Jason Lafrenz said. We want to remind would-be purchasers that student tickets are only valid in conjunction with a University of Minnesota student ID card. Fans who show up at the game with a student ticket and not a U of M ID card will not be allowed to enter TCF Bank Stadium."

So there you go. Scalp at your own risk.

Some other items:

--The U will hold a public open house at TCF Bank Stadium on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. to kick off festivities for the University's 2009 homecoming week.

Fans interested should enter the stadium at Gate E, which is located at Oak Street and University Ave. No other entrances will be open. No outside food or beverages may be brought into the stadium. A concession stand will be open inside the stadium.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the Emergency Food Network. Discounted parking is available at selected surface lots located in the vicinity of the stadium.

-Got an interesting note from a fellow whose son is a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity at Minnesota. Seems members of the FIJI houses in Wisconsin and Minnesota are combining to run the 280 or so miles between the two campuses carrying a game ball from Madison to Minnesota. Madison members will alternate two-mile stints, getting the ball to Winona, where it will be handed off to Minnesota members.

The event is raising money for the American Red Cross' Disaster Relief Fund. This is the first of what both houses hope is an annual event.
