A new wave of guiding clients have hit the water in my world. After many years of mostly, non- serious anglers wanting to make a once a year trip, now serious, boat owning anglers make up the list these days. It adds a good mix into the client list and how and why we spend the day on the water.
A new wave of clients for guides
Over the years, guiding clients were usually non- fishermen wanting to get once a year. Not anymore.

The last couple years, especailly new boat owners, are starting to hire guides to enhance their initial big boat and equipment investments. And it makes more sense than the cents it costs. It really speeds up the learning curve and allows a boat owner to learn an exact lesson, in one form of fishing or another, that he or she might not ever get right on their own. And they learn to not buy the wrong equipment. So, the calls usually ask for a speciifc set of lessons , at a specific time of the open water season, that the angler is having consistent success trouble with. Makes a lot of sense. And the calls and emails after the trip prove it works as clients report back from their own boat, using the lessons learned with the guide. Some are tackling one form of presentation per trip, going multiple times, each time learing a new tactic, along with relative boat control and needed equipment details.
Lake Mille Lacs walleye catching success is holding up well as summer months take hold. Not too many slow fishing reports these days are heard at the ramps and bars. Although wind and rain has held back some anglers, more good days than bad have been the norm. It's one of those bad days today though. That's why I'm on the keyboard instead of on the tiller handle of the big Merc. contact Steve at 651-270-3383 or sf1954@embarqmail.com
