The House and Senate Thursday passed a measure allowing midcareer professionals to get teachers' licenses without going through the usual process. Gov. Mark Dayton is expected to sign the bill.

Candidates for alternative teacher licensure must:

• Have a bachelor's degree and a GPA of 3.0 or higher

• Pass reading, writing, math skills exam

• Pass rigorous exams in teaching skills and their content area.

Alternative licensure programs must be approved by the Board of Teaching.

Qualifying candidates would obtain a two-year limited-term teaching license.

School districts or charter schools must partner with a college or nonprofit corporation with an approved program to participate.
