A look at TCAAP, past and future

April 22, 2012 at 12:15AM

The Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant (TCAAP) has been in the headlines since being named a few months ago as a potential site for a new Vikings stadium. Beyond that, few people know much about the site at Interstate 35W and Hwy. 10.

That's why the Ramsey County League of Local Governments will host the program "TCAAP -- Past, Present, Possibilities" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Arden Hills City Hall, 1245 W. Hwy. 96. The city also will offer a tour on a space-available basis at 5:45 p.m.

The plant made munitions during World War II, and the Korean, Vietnam and the first Gulf wars. Plans to redevelop the land have been in the works for nearly 30 years.

The U.S. Army's Mike Fix will talk about TCAAP's history and environmental issues. Greg Mack from Ramsey County Parks and Recreation will talk about acquisition and remediation efforts, and city officials Jill Hutmacher and Meagan Beekman will address the city's comprehensive plan and zoning ordinance.
