A look at NFL head coaches hired in 2014 and '15

Fourteen teams made head coaching changes going into the 2014 and '15 seasons. Nine of those new coaches came with a defensive background. Six of those defensive-minded coaches have since been fired, as have two of the five offensive-minded coaches. Here is a look at the coaches hired in 2014 and '15:

Defensive coaches (2014)

Mike Pettine, Browns: Fired after going 10-22.

Lovie Smith, Buccaneers: Fired after going 8-24.

Mike Zimmer, Vikings: 45-31-1 with two division titles.

Offensive coaches (2014)

Bill O'Brien, Texans: 40-37, two playoff appearances.

Jim Caldwell, Lions: Fired after going 36-28.

Ken Whisenhunt, Titans: Fired after going 3-20.

Defensive coaches (2015)

Jim Tomsula, 49ers: Fired after going 5-11.

Jack Del Rio, Raiders: Fired after going 25-23.

John Fox, Bears: Fired after going 14-34.

Rex Ryan, Bills: Fired after going 15-16.

Todd Bowles, Jets: 24-37 with one winning season.

Dan Quinn, Falcons: 33-28 with one conference title.

Offensive coaches (2015)

Gary Kubiak, Broncos: Retired a year after winning Super Bowl.
