A last-day treat in Patagonia

I took the photo in Patagonia, Chile, in mid-March of this year with a Canon EOS Rebel and an 18-135 lens. It was taken on a short hike from our hotel (Explora Lodge) which is one of very few that are actually within the Torres Des Paine National Park. THE Traveler: Kevin Gustafson of Eden Prairie.

The scene: Water gushes from a lake at the base of Massiv, an iconic mountain range in Patagonia.

Trip details: Gustafson captured this image during a short hike from his hotel, Explora Lodge, which is one of very few that lies within Chile's Torres Del Paine National Park. "It was exciting for me as it was on the final day of our stay and we had battled rain and clouds the previous three days. Then on the final day, the skies opened and this majestic scene unfolded where just hours before were only mist, clouds and rain. It made the trip worthwhile in an instant," he wrote in an e-mail.

Destination: The national park, celebrating a rugged and remote landscape, can be enjoyed by all ages, even by people who are not physically active, "although hiking will enhance the experience," Gustafson wrote. He also noted that the people are extremely friendly, the food and wine are excellent, and though it is far away, travelers from Minnesota don't suffer jet lag. Chile is in our time zone.

Equipment: Canon EOS Rebel, outfitted with an 18-135mm lens.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
