A holiday reminder to young women

December 18, 2008 at 4:58AM

St. Paul police are working with local bars to give college-aged women something to think about while they drink this holiday season.

Coasters with the message "You have the power to prevent sexual assault" were being distributed Wednesday night to bars along Grand Avenue.

Police spokesman Peter Panos said the sex crimes unit sometimes will see an uptick in sexual assaults involving college students who overindulge after having put their fall coursework behind them.

The coasters, he said, may lead some to think: I'm not leaving with this guy, Panos said.

Panos said that police plan to distribute about 1,000 coasters to bars along Grand and Snelling avenues.
