It took some research but a day after the Vikings' rallied from 14 points down in the fourth quarter to beat Arizona 27-24 in overtime it became clear just how improbable the victory really was.
Sunday marked the first time in the franchise's 50-year history that the Vikings won a game after trailing by 14 or more points with less than 4 minutes to play, according to Elias Sports Bureau. (Hat tip to our friend Kevin Seifert at ESPN for passing this along.) No NFL team had accomplished this feat since Indianapolis rallied for a 38–35 overtime victory in 2003 at Tampa Bay.
The last time the Vikings overcame a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter was on Oct. 4, 1992 against Chicago, The host Vikings trailed 20-0 entering the fourth quarter but ended up with a 21-20 victory.
