Caleb Gustafson 4, kept a close eye on Semo the dolphin at the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley last week during the zoo’s dolphin-farewell festivities. The zoo closed the exhibit for good at the end of the week. The dolphin tank is undergoing a year of repairs, and Semo and his counterpart, Allie, will be moved to another zoo, where they’ll join a new social group. Because new dolphins aren’t available from other zoos, and capturing them from the wild is no longer an option, the repaired tank will likely contain a temporary exhibit of rays and fish until a larger exhibit replaces it. With the departure, though, comes a new arrival: The zoo is opening a new black bear exhibit on its Minnesota Trail on Saturday . (Star Tribune/The Minnesota Star Tribune)
