A few words with Tony Ronzone at the Worlds

Team USA onto quarterfinals

September 7, 2010 at 5:29PM

I talked by phone with Timberwolves assistant GM Tony Ronzone the other day in Turkey, where he is on the staff of the Team USA team that reached Thursday's quarterfinal against Russia by clobbering Angola 121-66 on Monday.

Here's the Q and A I did with him before Kevin Love provided eight points, six rebounds and an assist in 15 minutes off the bench against Angola.

Ronzone has been with Team USA since 2007 as its director of international player personnel who sits in on coaches' meetings and provides reports on opposing players.

The Wolves have Love and two international prospects -- Ricky Rubio, of course, and Serbian forward Nemanja Bjelica -- still in the tournament.

Ronzone on the Team USA staff, European scout Pete Philo is working with the Chinese team that plays Lithuania today (Tuesday) and David Kahn planned to be there this week for the tournament's final week.

She doesn’t have the star power of Napheesa Collier or the ferociousness of Courtney Williams, but McBride is just as valuable to the first-place Lynx.
