A feast at the arboretum

The visuals were stunning at the Minnesota Arborteum fundraiser a few days ago. And they tasted good, too.

My favorite fundraiser of the year takes place outside, amid a display of color and texture and form that takes my breath away. It's the Minnesota Arboretum's annual event and this year, as always, the food was as lovely as the gardens.

Some of my favorites are pictured here, along with the following very tasty morsels. (Photos thanks to the Strib's Sara Glassman, who remembered her camera though I did not!)

* Chicken, pork and (I think) duck confit on a cornbread-like cracker from J.D. Fratzke and the Strip Club.

* Watermelon gazpacho from Brenda Langton and Spoonriver.

* Raw oysters with all sorts of toppings from Jack Riebel of the Dakota Jazz Club.

* Cucumber ice cream from Sonny's Ice Cream and Crema Cafe.

FILE -- A rent deposit slot at an apartment complex in Tucker, Ga., on July 21, 2020. As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
