9 a.m. update: Rush hour wrap up

MnDOT is repairing a noise wall between Huron Blvd. and Hwy. 280, which has the right lane closed. That work is causing major delays for eastbound 94 drivers. Major delays are in place from 26th Avenue in Minneapolis over to Hwy. 280. That trip is about 18 minutes.

Elsewhere on the system, crashes and spin outs abound as ramps and bridge decks have iced up with the cold weather.

Among the big delays, southbound 494 from I-94 past a truck/vehicle crash at Rockford Road and on Hwy. 169 in both directions due to crashes at Medicine Lake Road.

The State Patrol is also dealing with a 3-car crash on the ramp from westbound 94 to Radio Drive. And this just in: Wreck on northbound 35W at Cliff Road.

Roads are icy and that led to numerous spin outs and crashes during Monday's morning rush. Even through roads look to be in good shape, one slick spot can cause havoc as we saw on northbound Hwy. 169. Around 7:30 a.m., traffic came to a halt at Lincoln Drive with a crash.

Across the system, other crashes that tangled traffic occurred on southbound Hwy. 280 at Energy Park Drive and a trio of crashes on northbound 35W between Burnsville Pkwy. and 82nd Street.

Malfunctioning traffic lights on Hwy. 55 at Hwy. 101 led to delays in the west metro.

The word of the day is use caution. Roads will likely continue be icy as temperatures struggle to rise. Be safe and drive according to the conditions.
