Congestion was the order of the day for drivers on southbound 35W from Blaine to downtown Minneapolis. Traffic got thick early and things stayed that way until late in the rush. That made for 30-minute commutes from Lexington Avenue to downtown Minneapolis when things were at their worst.
Westbound 94 drivers from Woodbury into downtown St. Paul encountered delays from White Bear Avenue to 35E, and a mid-morning crash at Dale Street kept things crawling along until after 8:30 a.m. The drive over to Minneapolis trudged along at 20 minutes during the peak.
A crash on eastbound 94 at Broadway tangled traffic for a good portion of the morning, leading to slow traffic from Broadway over to Hwy. 280.
Northbound 35W ran great until a trio of incidents around 8 a.m. Those included a wreck at Diamond Lake Road and stalls at 42nd Street and 35th Street. That pushed the drive time from the Crosstown to downtown Minneapolis up to 15 minutes.
The Crosstown bogged down around 7:45 a.m. in both directions between 28th Avenue and Hwy. 100. A stall at Tracy Avenue plugged things up after 8 a.m. for eastbound drivers. At 8:30 a.m., the ramp from eastbound Hwy. 212 to Shady Oak Road shut down to allow crews to install a new water main. The ramp will be closed through 10 p.m.
Early congestion on southbound Hwy. 101 in Rogers delivered set backs in the 6 a.m. hour while eastbound 94 suffered from St. Michael to Rogers. A semi fire near Hwy. 241 around 7:50 a.m. tangled traffic for about 30 minutes for eastbound 94 drivers.
Transit appeared to run on schedule with no delays or incidents reported on buses or trains.
