It's been seven months since commuters have been able to cross the 86th Street bridge over I-35W in Bloomington. That will change Tuesday.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will open the new bridge at 6 a.m., said spokesman David Aeikens.

Cold weather delayed the opening, which was to have occurred last week. But with snow and temperatures in the 20s, crews were unable to put down lane markings. This week's warmer weather allowed crews to stripe the road on Monday. Crews also were to install an ornamental railing paid for by the City of Bloomington, Aeikens said.

The bridge used by about 6,100 vehicles a day has been closed since April

In Minneapolis, the Portland Avenue bridge over I-94 and the ramp from 31st Street to I-35W south is scheduled to open Wednesday.
