A 7.5-magnitude earthquake shook the islands of the Indian Ocean earlySunday morning, and rain will fall on any clean-up efforts.The quake rattled the Nicobar and Andaman islands, prompting a tsunami alertthat was later dropped when no sea level changes were reported.
Besides widespread power outages, no major damages or casualties have beenannounced.
According to AccuWeather.com meteorologists, isolated showers andthunderstorms will occur across the islands today and last through Tuesday.
Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected later this week beforedrier weather returns again this upcoming weekend.
The Nicobar and Andaman islands are located between India to the west andMyanmar to the north and east. More than 300,000 people live on theislands.
A tsunami with wave heights of more than 33 feet killed more than 200,000people in the region in 2004. The tsunami was prompted by a 7.9-magnitude quakeoff the coast of Sumatra.
