6 file for Washington County school board seats

August 10, 2013 at 10:00PM

Filings close at 5 p.m. Tuesday for five school board seats up for election this fall in the South Washington County School District.

Incumbents Tracy Brunnette, Laurie Johnson, David Kemper and Katy McElwee-Stevens were among six candidates to file as of 3 p.m. Friday. The fifth incumbent, Marsha Adou, is not seeking re-election.

Four seats involve four-year terms, and the fifth is for the final two years of a term begun by departed member Leslee Boyd. Earlier this year, the board appointed McElwee-Stevens to fill that seat until the Nov. 5 election.

McElwee-Stevens is among five candidates to file for a four-year term. The others are incumbents Brunnette and Kemper, and challengers Frederick Hess and Katie Schwartz. Johnson will seek the two-year term.

Board hopefuls who wish to file affidavits of candidacy must do so in the office of the school district clerk, 7362 E. Point Douglas Road S., Cottage Grove.
