Pick Six is a half-dozen cool things in music, from two points of view.

CJ Gronner of Richfield:

1 The Go-Go's are elected into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Finally! Outrageous but true, they are still the only all-female band that played their own instruments and wrote their own songs to have an album ("Beauty and the Beat") go to No. 1 one in this country.

2 "Bob Dylan: Retrospectrum." As he celebrates his 80th birthday this month, he is having his most comprehensive U.S. visual art exhibition in Miami, featuring his paintings, drawings and sculptures from over six decades. Nov. 30 to April 17. Hope it comes to Minnesota.

3 Tom Morello and Pussy Riot, "Weather Strike." While Pussy Riot punk revolutionary members Masha Alekhina and Lucy Shtein remain on house arrest for their support of Putin foe Alexei Navalny, their super politically charged track with the U.S. social justice superhero can't help but sound like an awesomely female Rage Against the Machine. Here's to building a bridge through art and music. Solidarity.

Jon Bream, Star Tribune critic:

1 "What's Going On: Marvin Gaye's Anthem for the Ages," CNN. This hourlong special focuses on the classic 1971 album that set social commentary to pretty sounds. Motown vets including Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder weigh in, but it's the testimony of younger musicians such as Maxwell and Devon Gilfillian that speaks to the enduring power of this protest landmark.

2 J. Period, "All in Your Head." On "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," the DJ was assisted by Dave Chappelle's narration, Black Thought's raps and, most importantly, Tiffany Gouché's heavenly voice.

3 "Summer of Soul," MSP International Film Festival. In his directorial debut, Questlove has lovingly resurrected footage of a series of concerts in Harlem in 1969 — known as the "Black Woodstock" — and given them context and perspective. This doc has great energy, music and purpose. Powerful stuff.
