Pick Six is a half-dozen cool things in music, from two points of view.

Jim Koloc of Eagan:

1 Driveway concerts. A special shout-out to all the musicians, bands and crews, pro and otherwise, who had nowhere to play in 2020 except outside with an extension cord from a garage. We are indebted to you for a glimmer of sunshine during a dark time. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

2 Foxes and Fossils. Cover songs have never sounded this fun. F & F has surpassed 50 million YouTube views with its precision vocals and capable arrangements. The three leading ladies harmonize together like angels. "Mr. Sandman" is pure candy, and "Telling Me Lies" shows some serious chops.

3 Prince, "A Case of U" from "One Nite Alone." The Purple One isn't necessarily known for his covers, but another listen to his version of Joni Mitchell's 1971 masterpiece reminds us once more of what we've lost.

Jon Bream, Star Tribune critic:

1 Trae tha Truth wins Billboard's Change Maker Award. After his many accomplishments were detailed, the Houston rapper/activist gave an inspiring speech on Sunday night on the importance of changing people's lives. Then, on Tuesday, on the anniversary of his friend George Floyd's death, Trae helped dedicate a new technology center in the Houston 'hood where Floyd grew up.

2 Olivia Rodrigo. Her recent performance of "Drivers License" on "Saturday Night Live" suggested that this former Disney Channel star, 18, is not a manufactured pop star but the real deal. Now with her debut album, "Sour," she solidifies her bona fides, with self-penned material about heartbreak that's perfectly Swiftian teen pop with an occasional blast of punky angst.

3 Celebrating Bob Dylan's 80th birthday. There were many, many worthy tributes, including Rolling Stone rolling out its digital archives of Dylan interviews, Iron Rangers breaking ground for the Hibbing Dylan Project, and Javier Trejo and pals digging deep into the Bob Songbook in a St. Paul yard.
