6 a.m. update: Back to full strength on 694

All westbound lanes from Long Lake Road to East River Road are open.

At long last, the road construction on I-694 through New Brighton, Fridley and Brooklyn Center is coming to an end.

All westbound lanes from Long Lake Road to East River Road are open. A number of ramps that have been closed also are back open:

  • The ramp from eastbound I-694 to southbound Snelling/Hamline Avenue.
    • The ramp from northbound Central Avenue (Highway 65) to westbound I-694 and
      • The ramp from westbound I-694 to University Avenue (Highway 47).

Motorists can expect the freeway to be reduced to a single lane during the overnight hours this week as crews install guard rails and remove temporary traffic control barriers. But there should be no impact on lane capacity during rush hours, a welcome relief after five months of headaches.
