6:35 a.m. update: Gridlock on I-35W, I-94 in north metro

The closure of I-694 between 35E and 35W in both directions has commuters seeking alternate routes. A large number of drivers apparently are using southbound 35W. Traffic is hardly moving from 95th Avenue down to County Road E2 through Blaine, Shoreview and Arden Hills.

The closure of I-694 between 35E and 35W in both directions has commuters seeking alternate routes. A large number of drivers apparently are using southbound 35W. Traffic is hardly moving from 95th Avenue down to County Road E2 through Blaine, Shoreview and Arden Hills.

Eastbound 94 is also a parking lot from 101st Avenue in Maple Grove down to the Fish Lake Split. Traffic is inching along. The rest area at Weaver Lake Road is closed as police investigate a shooting that occurred just after 1 a.m.

South metro drivers on northbound 35W are running into some slow down from Burnsville Pkwy. to the Minnesota River bridge. A stall in the southbound lanes is enough to create a gawker effect.
