A 5-year-old boy riding an ATV on his own near a west-central Minnesota road crashed and suffered critical injuries, authorities said.
The incident occurred late Saturday afternoon just to the southwest of George Lake, about 3 miles west of Spicer, according to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office.
The boy was unaccompanied and not wearing a helmet as he operated the 700-pound four-wheeler along 42nd Street NE., according to Sheriff's Sgt. Eric Tollefson.
At some point, the machine left the road and overturned, Tollefson continued. An air ambulance flew him to a hospital in St. Cloud.
The boy's identity has yet to be released.
